  • Why chose a mobile vet?

A housecall  veterinary visit lets your pet be examined in the comfort and safety of their home. Thorough examinations allows tailoured treatment plans suited to the unique needs of your pet. Pets are often calmer, and you receive personalised, one-on-one attention. Mobile visits also reduce travel stress and waiting rooms — perfect for senior pets, anxious pets,  pet owners who are unable to travel, or families wanting convenience.

  • How far in advance should I book an appointment?

We recommend booking a few days in advance, as our schedule fills quickly. For urgent needs, we do our best to accommodate same-day appointments when possible.  If we are unable to accomodate your pet, we discuss alternatives such as referal to other trusted veterinary services.

  • What happens during a housecall vet appointment?

During a HousePaws Mobile Vet  housecall visit, your veterinarian will:

    • Discuss your pet’s health and any concerns

    • Perform a gentle thorough physical exam

    • Explain findings, treatment options, and next steps

    • Answer all questions.

Being at home helps pets feel relaxed and comfortable, making it easier to provide thorough care and treatment.

  • Where in the home does the appointment take place?

Appointments can take place wherever your pet feels most comfortable — a favourite bed, blanket, or even in the yard. We aim to create a calm, stress-free environment during the visit.

  • What if my pet is anxious or nervous?

Many pets are calmer at home than in a clinic. We use a gentle, low-stress approach and move at a slower pace that keeps your pet comfortable.

Being in a familiar environment without car travel, waiting rooms, or unfamiliar animals can make a big difference.

If you pet is too anxious, we may prescribe medication, and rebook for the future.

  • Can family members or other pets be present?

Yes — family members and other pets are welcome. If another pet may become stressed, you can choose whether they continue to stay. We accommodate whatever is most comfortable for your household.

  • What should I prepare before the appointment?

Please have your pet in a safe and comfortable area. Dogs should have a collar and loose lead. Cats should be confined to a small area where they are unable to hide (bedroom, bathroom etc), or placed in a pet carrier in a dark, quiet room. Having your pet in a comfortable area and having any previous medications or records on hand can be helpful. We bring all equipment and guide you through the visit.  If you are unsure, please discuss with us prior to your visit.

  • How long does a mobile vet appointment take?

Most housecall visits take 30–45 minutes, depending on your pet’s needs. We allow plenty of time so appointments are never rushed.

  • Can you prescribe medications?

Yes. As a licensed veterinarian, we can prescribe relevant medications after examining your pet.

  • What if my pet needs surgery or hospital care?

Some testing and procedures must be performed in a clinic. If this is required, we help arrange a referral to a trusted Gold Coast veterinary clinic. If ongoing management is then required, we can  liase with the clinic to provide at-home care by HousePaws Mobile Vet.

  • Do you provide emergency veterinary services?

  • Is a mobile vet more expensive than visiting a clinic?

Mobile veterinary services include a housecall fee, which covers the senior, experienced veterinarian travelling to your home and the additional time required for a thorough, compassionate, personalised visit.

Many pet owners find the convenience and reduced stress for their pet well worth the difference.

Our consultation, including travel fees, are outlined on the Fees page.
